Mauricio Pochettino likely isn’t a happy man, with Tottenham still yet to make a single signing so far this summer. The Lilywhites had a mixed campaign last term, with a top-four spot secured but without their usually consistent threat in the Premier League title race.
Naturally, then, for Spurs to have any chance of catching Man City, Pochettino has his work cut out – especially with his current playing squad.
However, with a little under a week to make a few signings, there is time for the Lilywhites, and one man that would be a sensational signing is Wilfried Zaha, who is rated at £27 million by Transfer Markt.
He is, according to the Mirror, said to be eager to remain in London, and though he has his eyes on Chelsea at present, perhaps Tottenham could look to return into the fray and make their move.
After all, the Ivorian had a tremendous campaign last time out. Whilst he missed a number of games through injury, he managed to bag a very stellar 9 league goals. These came from 29 appearances, giving a record of around 3 games per goal. That’s not a bad record by any stretch, particularly for a winger. It’s also the same total number as Dele Alli and just 1 less than Christian Eriksen, meaning he’d be right in line with 2 of Tottenham’s most important players.
However, he offers a number of traits that nobody else in the Spurs team can.
He’s strong and powerful, and his frame makes him a real physical threat going forward. However, despite all that, he’s incredibly mobile and he’s fantastic with the ball at his feet. He’s quite rare in that sense, marking him out as a unique prospect in the Premier League.
Tottenham’s attack is full of quality, but a player like Zaha would take it to another level. Pochettino and Spurs want the Premier League title, that much is clear, and a signing on Zaha’s level would certainly put them a few steps closer to that.
