Wolverhampton Wanderers have enjoyed a glowing opening to the campaign, with their midfield pairing of Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves providing the foundations of a well-oiled machine.
The former is an experienced figurehead who simply oozes class in the centre of midfield, but he is edging towards the end of his career. Neves represents a vastly different prospect altogether at just 21-years-of-age, and the Wanderers faithful will be hoping he remains at Molineux as the club bid to establish themselves in the top-flight.
But glowing performances of the nature which Neves has been consistently producing seldom go unnoticed by the big clubs in Europe, and he is no exception to the rule.
Links with Manchester City have been commonplace in the British media as Guardiola begins to hone in on his ideal Fernandinho successor, but a recent report from Italian media outlet Tuttosport suggests that Juventus have joined the race for his signature.
According to the report, Jorge Mendes recently met with Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici – a meeting in which the prospect of a potential deal for Neves was openly discussed.
Sure, Wolves supporters won’t be hitting the panic button just yet. After all, Juventus have merely expressed an interest in Neves’ services, and there is no indication that a formal bid is waiting in the pipeline.
But the report suggests that Neves’ glowing reputation extends across the continent, implying that he could ultimately be presented with an array of choice regarding his future in the coming months.
With all due respect to Wolves, Neves is a player who is clearly capable of making a huge step up in his career, and sooner or later interest from afar could force their hand.
As Wolves continue their revolution in the top-flight they will be banking on Neves to stay loyal to the club which gave him the opportunity to showcase his talent in English football, so the latest transfer report will give them genuine cause for concern as another European giant joins a growing list of interested parties.
