Eden Hazard has dominated the Chelsea squad since his arrival from Lille, with the Belgian typically starting every single game for the club. He’s certainly deserved that level of significance, given his fine form, but rarely has his spot ever really been available for someone else. According to the Sun, though, Chelsea are concerned that he could leave the club this summer in favour of Real Madrid.
The prospect of a potential departure for Hazard then, could actually be a good thing for a few players. His departure would leave a massive gap in the Blues’ first-team squad, and that could open up a chance for someone else.
Antonio Conte over the last two years used a very small group of players, and that meant that some players rarely havee gotten the opportunities that they have deserved.
But who could take over the spot that could be left behind by Eden Hazard?
Pedro and Willian traded places a lot last season, and it was Pedro that more often fell to the bench.
If Hazard were to leave, though, you’d expect Pedro to take over the mantle, on an immediate basis at least, resulting in more appearances for the Spaniard.
He’s never really been a player that starts every week for the club, and that should really change.
He’s got great pace and quality going forward, and he’d certainly be able to take over the role in the short-term. Who knows, he could even take it over long-term.
Whether Ruben Loftus-Cheek would benefit from a potential departure this summer would depend on how he is utilised next season.
However, he has proven with England this summer that he is more than capable of playing in a number-10 style position, and that’s a slot that would likely be held by Hazard at Stamford Bridge if Chelsea were to revert back to a formation requiring that type of player.
If he quits, then, Loftus-Cheek would be a genuinely fantastic option for this role.
His brilliant technique and passing would make a brilliant asset in place of Hazard, and so he may finally get the opportunity he craves if Hazard leaves.
