It’s pretty clear that in order to go to the next level, Tottenham need to win a few trophies, and next season, that’s the minimum that our resident Lilywhites are expecting.
However, in order to do that, Mauricio Pochettino needs to bring in one or two huge names as he looks to compete with the likes of Man City and Man Utd.
One area that could certainly do with an upgrade is the attack, with Harry Kane currently the only genuinely world-class option for Pochettino in that regard.
Fortunately, there are many top forwards currently strutting their stuff in Europe, and one that would be perfect for Spurs is Mauro Icardi, who is rated at £67.5 million by Transfer Markt.
Currently playing for Inter Milan, Icardi has emerged as one of the deadliest strikers on the continent over the last few years. He’s bagged a stunning 27 league goals this season, in addition to 24 last year, and 16 the year before. The Argentine is clearly getting better and better, and Spurs would be wise to invest.
Significantly, he is the Inter captain, and he has been for a while, and that’s all whilst being just 24-years-old. Those leadership qualities could be just what Spurs need.
Harry Kane has been excellent for Spurs, but the arrival of another forward would take the load off of him somewhat, and that can only be a good thing for the club. Not to mention, Icardi would be outstanding next to Kane as well, offering a brilliantly potent and efficient goalscoring threat to play off of Kane’s brilliant ball play.
He wouldn’t be cheap, but Tottenham need to invest in proven quality – and Icardi certainly falls under that banner.
