Liverpool’s squad is filled with quality, but so far this season, Jurgen Klopp has had limited options up front. Roberto Firmino has been tasked with leading the line more often than not, but beyond the Brazilian, Jurgen Klopp doesn’t have many ways to turn.
That was, until Sunday, when the German finally decided to give Divock Origi aa chance in the Premier League. The attacker has been largely forgotten after a couple of disappointing campaigns, and he’s fallen well behind Firmino in the pecking order.
However, he has proven that he deserves more of a chance on Sunday when he bagged the winning goal for the Reds against Everton. It was a huge goal, and Jurgen Klopp’s celebration proved how much it meant to the club.
Now, it seems as though fans are eager to see more of Origi. We recently asked Liverpool supporters whether Klopp should give Origi more chances, and a whopping 97% of those polled voted in favour of such an idea.
Origi had, up until the weekend, not made a single appearance in the league this season, and that’s a shame, given his undeniable quality. He got another chance on Wednesday, but he’s still not been involved as much as he would have liked in recent weeks.
It wasn’t quite worked out for him as of late, but there were signs on Sunday, in particular, that he’s still got a future at a high level, and at 23-years-old, he’s still more than young enough to turn it around.
Giving him a chance makes sense for Liverpool, as it would reduce the onus on Firmino to deliver. Of course, he’ll need to back up any chances with good displays, but if Sunday was anything to go by, he’s got the talent.
