Overated Remy Shouldn’t Be Allowed Anywhere Near The Etihad

Manchester City are seeking to make additions to their incredible strikeforce with the signing of Loic Remy. Would his signature spend the end of Edin Dzeko’s time at Eastlands?

The reigning Premier League champions, who already have arguably the best collection of strikers in the world, are looking to add Remy to provide an added dimension up front as they seek to retain their crown.

With Sergio Aguero out of action for a month at the minimum. Boss Roberto Mancini is keen to bring Remy, who has attracted the interest of Tottenham Hotspur this summer as well, to the Manchester Club to provide the cover he believes they need.

If Remy is signed by the blue half of Manchester however, one striker will most likely be pushed out the exit door to accommodate him into their already large squad.

Aguero is a certainty to stay, his goalscoring exploits a key factor into their title winning success. Carlos Tevez has recently stated he has finally settled down at Eastlands (Guess Manchester has a decent golf course).

Balotelli has also seemingly settled down at City, leaving one striker out in the cold in Edin Dzeko. The Bosnian has struggled to hold down a regular first team spot for the Manchester side and could look to move on to bolster his career prospects.

But is it a worthwhile trade off? Selling Dzeko for Remy? The answer is no.

While it is well known Mancini is desperate to bring in new faces, taking the risk to sell a striker who, by all means, has got on with his job in a quiet fashion while still providing the goods needed for a striker not even considered third choice. In 28 overall appearances last season, Dzeko managed to score 14 goals for the club.

A striker who can score a goal every two games while not being first choice is invaluable to any club. On the other hand, Remy has not scored more than 15 league goals for any club in one season so far. While he is indeed a quality player, he is untested in this league and may not produce the same goalscoring exploits while being lower in the pecking order that Dzeko has provided.

Would Remy be a good signing for City? Should Dzeko make way for him? Leave your comments below.
