Liverpool have set themselves a standard that they’ll need to adhere to for years to come.
Klopp’s brand of entertaining football is yet to yield any real results, other than perhaps an appearance in the Champions League final, but he’s certainly got his team heading in the right direction.
There’s an industrious intensity and attacking threat about their play that is scarcely seen anywhere other than Manchester City, and they deserve a spot in the top three because of that.
Indeed, big money has been spent to get them to where they are today. And with these spending comes an expectation of players that they will perform. Should they feel to reach the required level, they will duly be moved on.
With that in mind, here is one player that needs to play out of his skin to avoid being axed…
Adam Lallana has only just made his way back into the team after a lengthy spell on the sideline, but after a few shaky performances – especially against Red Star Belgrade – he may find himself back out of it come 2019.
The ex-Southampton man still has bags of quality, there’s no doubting that. He didn’t lose his ability to spot a pass and orchestrate attacking play during his injury, but he’s certainly not looking as sharp as he once did.
The pressure is really on Lallana now who may be well aware of a certain young talent called Harry Wilson who’s currently tearing it up in the Championship for Derby County.
Should his performances continue to fail to impress, it seems likely that his space in the squad will be taken up by a much newer Welsh shaped model.
