Palace fans on Twitter all called for Townsend as their man of the match yesterday

Crystal Palace fans were in dreamland yesterday when they managed to overcome Tottenham at Selhurst Park to advance to the 5th round of the FA Cup. They managed to repeat the feat of knocking Tottenham out after doing it back in 2016, although this time around they had Andros Townsend to thank, as the winger was sublime throughout.

When Crystal Palace’s admin took to Twitter to ask the supporters who’d won their vote for man of the match in the win against Tottenham, there were two names that came up more often than any other. Andros Townsend, the scorer of the penalty, and Julian Speroni, who made plenty of smart stops to keep the ever-attacking Lilywhites at bay throughout an action-packed FA Cup clash.

In the end, it seems the former Tottenham man Townsend pipped his Argentine teammate to the man of the match award, and it’s not hard to see why. Every time the 27-year-old got involved in the game he looked like making things happen, and it was one of those games where the Lilywhites would have killed to have his driving impact for them and not against them as they bailed out of the FA Cup.

You can read the Eagles’ calls for Townsend to be named man of the match here:

The Eagles absolutely loved watching Townsend rip his former side apart and will hope he can make that display his benchmark for the rest of the season.
