Manchester United are believed to be interested in signing Crystal Palace defender Nathaniel Clyne, according to Manchester Evening News.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson saw the capabilities of the England U21 International first hand when the impressive Clyne’s Cyrstal Palace unceremoniously dumped United out of the Carling Cup in front of a stunned Old Trafford crowd.
The 20-year old, has 6 months remaining on his current deal at Selhust Park and has been linked with a number of top flight clubs including Newcastle and Fulham. The Metro reports that with Phil Jones out with ankle injury and expected to be out for a few weeks, Ferguson feels the time is right to make his move for the young defender
The South London club appear resigned to losing one of their prized assets, with the player said to be unwilling to sign a new contract. Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish told the Evening Standard, that he was expecting the youth team product to move on.
‘I have offered him a very lucrative one and I can’t force him to accept it,’ he said.
‘His agent has got Nathaniel running his contract down – make your own mind up about what’s happening.’
Ferguson, has tried many different players in the troublesome right back position this season and with Phil Jones currently sidelined and the Da Silva twins proving to be inconsistent and injury prone a move for Clyne could prove to be smart business for United. With Fergie’s recent transfer policy of recruiting the most promising British talent, Clyne seems to fit the bill perfectly.
Old Trafford would be the ideal place for him to hone his skills and fulfil his vast potential. Though, only 20-years old Clyne has a wealth of experience for his age making over 100 appearances for Palace since his debut in 2008 and he won the Crystal Palace Player of the Season award last campaign.
