Pardew keen on big money West Brom signing despite limited funds – Report

West Bromwich Albion fans are buzzing after the weekend’s win over Liverpool, although breaking their club-record for a signing could just top that.

Alan Pardew has had a tough time of things since taking over at the Hawthorns as his side currently sits inside the bottom three, but after pulling off a shock win away at Anfield on Saturday the Baggies will be in high spirits. Although, with a season-defining few days left in the January transfer window, all eyes are on Alan Pardew as fans urge him to spend big in order to ensure their best possible chances of achieving survival. And, according to reports in the Mail Online, West Brom are lining up an £18 million bid for Watford striker Troy Deeney.

It doesn’t take a genius to realise that one of West Brom’s weaknesses this season has been their strength in depth in attacking areas, hence the reason that Pardew is focusing so heavily on securing the services of a striker this window. And, Watford skipper Troy Deeney looks to be the likely target, with the Baggies managing to break their previous club-record signing, should they secure an £18m deal for the striker.

Indeed, they received a huge boost in their quest to sign the 29-year-old after he was left out of the Hornets’ squad at the weekend, and with him having a house in the Midlands it looks as if it’s fate for Deeney to make the move. But, after seeing Hal Robson Kanu pick up an injury in the weekend’s fixture at Anfield, the requirement for a striker is nearing desperation for the Baggies. However, there’s going to be difficulties in bringing him in with the club having a lack of funds, as the striker currently sits on £70,000 per week, with Albion reportedly struggling for funds.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Would be a quality signing for West Brom that would guarantee them goals, and as a player with a proven Premier League goalscoring record he would have a huge say in the future of the club. However, implications with funds and salary could force West Brom to sell some of their key players of interest, which could weaken the side in other areas.
