West Bromwich Albion may have secured a priceless three points against Brighton this weekend, but fans here in The Transfer Tavern remain extremely concerned despite victory.
Goals from Jonny Evans and Craig Dawson lifted the Baggies off of the foot of the table, with new boss Alan Pardew given a massive reprieve following a less than impressive start to his Hawthorns reign. Our landlord caught up with happy Baggies fans over a game of darts in the wake of Saturday’s win, but fans could not help but express their concerns over the club’s lack of goals from those that should be scoring them. Both strikes against the Seagulls came from central defenders, and this is not sustainable. Just eighteen league goals this season will not be good enough to keep the club up, and a proven goalscorer must be sourced this month.
A number of names were mentioned in the conversation our landlord had with fans, and many couldn’t help but feel that the club must move for out-of-favour Bournemouth man, Lewis Grabban. The forward grabbed twelve goals during a loan spell with Championship strugglers Sunderland, and it now appears that Cherries boss Eddie Howe is keen to move the player on this month. Grabban is in excellent form as a result of his antics at The Stadium of Light, and Pardew needs a goalscorer.
Grabban will be a cheap, reliable option, and if he can grab seven to ten goals over the second half of the campaign, West Brom will extend their stay in the top flight.
