Pardew reportedly eyeing Premier League swoop as West Brom fight for survival

West Bromwich Albion fans here in the Tavern are looking for their side to strengthen this window, with them now looking like one of the favourites for relegation to the Championship.

The Baggies will have been hoping for a change in form under manager Alan Pardew, but the poor trend has continued as the former Newcastle boss struggles to keep them clear of relegation trouble.

Indeed, West Brom are surely looking to strengthen in attacking areas with one of the worst goalscoring records in the Premier League. And, according to reports in the Sky Sports Transfer Centre Live blog (12:24), Alan Pardew is interested in Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe.

After the Cherries stated that they had no interest in selling striker Benik Afobe this window, it looked as if the Englishman was set to stay at the Vitality for the remainder of the season.

However, after Pardew’s interest, if the Baggies are serious about securing the services of the 24-year-old, then they’ll have a battle on their hands with bitter rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers who are also reportedly monitoring the situation of their former striker.

In a West Bromwich Albion side that currently has Salomon Rondon as their only target man at the focal point of their attack, adding Afobe to their ranks could provide for some quality back-up behind the Venezuelan.

Although, having only made eight starts for the Cherries so far this season, his one goal might not be worthy of a purchase considering their current situation.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Pardew should look elsewhere, for a side that struggles to find the back of the net they really need to turn their attention to a proven goalscorer this season.

However, after displaying goalscoring form at Molineux that got him the move to Bournemouth in the first place, they’ll be hoping he can replicate this at The Hawthorns.
