I’ll say that again…because it’s music to my ears…Danny Guthrie is being considered for a loan move to Nottingham Forest. The deal would suit both clubs really. Guthrie is a hard-working player, but he’s struggled for Newcastle this season.
It hasn’t helped that between injuries and the excellent form of Kevin Nolan and Cheick Tiote, he’s barely had any playing time. Newcastle manager Alan Pardew could afford to offload Guthrie, and still maintain a highly competitive midfield.
As for Forest, as we come to the time of year that sees the business of promotion become more and more relevant, they need to recruit players with Premier League experience and enough quality to help them hit the top 6 in the first division. I’ve always considered Guthrie a very good Championship player, and a middling Premiership one. Forest could be the right club for him, as he looks to start playing football again.
I’m not his biggest fan, but I do think he’s been a little unlucky. At Liverpool, he was behind several excellent midfielders (and Lucas) on the squad list, and whilst he gained a foothold at Bolton, relegation with Newcastle all but put his career on hold. Now, as he looks to re-establish himself, Forest could be a decent place to play football.
The 23 year old Shropshire lad has scored 6 goals for Newcastle, the only 6 goals of his career. He’s still young enough to have a decent career. But I can’t see it being with the Toon.
