Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we are awaiting the next signing at Manchester City after an already busy period in the summer transfer window and it looks increasingly likely that Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo will be the next recruit, according to The Independent.
The news comes after the La Liga club announced the signing of Negredo’s possible replacement – Colombian forward Carlos Bacca from Club Brugge.
Bacca has agreed a five-year contract at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan which came once the club decided to replace Negredo after possible talks in Manchester about a possible deal taking the Spanish international forward to the Eithad Stadium.
City have slowly emerged as the main contenders to sign Negredo, who netted 25 goals in La Liga to become the highest scoring Spaniard in the league.
Spurs and Andre Villas-Boas have shown some interest in the 27-year-old forward previously but the former Premier League champions are understood to be Negredo’s club of choice due to their Champions League participation.
Sevilla’s confirmation of Negredo’s replacement could now see an imminent move to Manchester with Manuel Pellegrini favouring Negredo over Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic whose future remains unclear this summer.
Will City seal the deal for Negredo and reunite him with Jesus Navas? Let us know your thoughts below.
