Tottenham supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern have been offered a boost in their pursuit of Brazilian target Leandro Damiao, after it was revealed by talkSPORT that Napoli have not approached his club Internacional about a possible summer move.
The Serie A club were thought to be considering a move for the 23-year-old forward, who was close to joining Spurs in January before a deal fell apart due to complicated third-party ownership issues.
Andre Villas-Boas is understood to be interest in making a fresh bid for Damiao who could be available for around £20 million this summer in an attempt to add much-need reinforcements in attack at White Hart Lane.
It had been claimed that Spurs were set to face fierce competition from Napoli and new manager Rafael Benitez who is looking to find a top-quality replacement for Paris Saint-Germain bound Edinson Cavani.
But now Napoli president Giovanni Luigi has insisted this is not the case, telling Sky Sports: “No one from Napoli has spoken with me and I do not know if they are talking to his agent.
“But if I like a football player, I’m going to talk to his club and not with the agent.
“For me there is no negotiation started for Damiao with Napoli, this must be a guess because, I repeat, Napoli have not mentioned this interest either now or in the past.
However he explained that he expected the player to remain in Brazil, adding: “How much is he worth? I do not know if I’m going to sell, he should remain here. I believe the player will be here for at least another year.”
