Swansea City fans in the Transfer Tavern are still delighted that Paul Clement secured their Premier League survival last season.
The former Chelsea coach orchestrated a stunning revival, which saw Swansea move from bottom of the league to 15th by the conclusion of the Premier League season.
It truly was a magnificent turnaround on Clement’s behalf who had never previously managed in the Premier League.
While no one can deny Swansea’s achievements, one aspect of their season clouded their attainments, their tendency to concede goals.
Aside from relegated Hull City, Swansea conceded the highest total of goals in the division, a total of 70.
This is utterly unacceptable for any team vying to maintain their Premier League status, and it is an area that requires much attention before the start of the forthcoming season.
Subsequently, our landlord has highlighted Manchester City’s Eliaquim Mangala as a potential recruit to improve the quality of their defence.
The 26-year-old has already attained Premier League experience having registered a total of 64 appearances in all competitions for Manchester City.
Additionally, the Frenchman has gained valuable experience while playing in La Liga with Valencia last season. Also, he has represented France at international level, earning eight caps.
Despite failing to achieve the heights he attained at Porto, Mangala is still a good player.
He’s a commanding presence at the heart of midfield; he’s powerful, athletic and also quite comfortable in possession.
Also, he has also demonstrated throughout his career, his willingness to carry the ball and drive forward.
Our landlord believes he would be a good signing for the Swans.
