New Stoke City boss Paul Lambert has it all to do if he is to keep the Potters in the Premier League, with the club languishing in the relegation spots following a heavy defeat to Manchester United on Monday evening.
Fans here in The Transfer Tavern watched quietly as their side were dismantled by a far superior Red Devils outfit at Old Trafford, and there is a growing belief that the club’s long stay in the top flight may finally be coming to an end. Not many here are inspired by the appointment of Lambert, and fans told our landlord over a game of pool that serious signings must be made this month if the new manager is to keep the club in the division. A new striker is a must, with the club having mustered just twenty-three goals this season, and fans are keen to see Lambert raid his former club Norwich City for Portuguese forward, Nelson Oliveira.
The 26-year-old has performed well at Carrow Road since making a permanent switch from Benfica, and would certainly be tempted by a Premier League move given that the Canaries are struggling in mid-table in the second tier. Seven goals to his name this season, which has been tarnished by injury, Oliveira in in-demand, and achieving his dream of making the Portuguese squad that travels to Russia this summer will certainly be in his thoughts. Impress at Stoke and score enough goals to keep them afloat, then Portugal manager Fernando Santo will have no choice but to include the prolific forward in his side. If Stoke want survival, Oliveira is the type of player they must be targeting.
