Paul Pogba to Barcelona could force Denis Suarez into Newcastle loan move

Newcastle United have enjoyed a thoroughly productive transfer window so far despite the complaints of the supporters who consistently criticise Mike Ashley for his failure to spend money in the transfer market, but their summer could yet get better if Rafa Benitez is able to convince his compatriot to join him at the club.

Transfer deadline day promises to be full of unexpected twists and turns, and a recent report from the Daily Mail suggests the wheels are already in motion with regards to one of the most shocking deals in recent memory. According to the report, Paul Pogba has agreed a 5-year contract worth a whopping £89.5 million with Barcelona, just two years since he signed for the club from Juventus.

The France international has only recently returned to first-team training with the club after lifting the World Cup in Russia, but Jose Mourinho’s reported reluctance to praise him for his impressive showing on the international stage has contributed to his desire to leave the club. But United’s loss may well prove to be Newcastle United’s gain, as Pogba’s arrival at the Nou Camp will almost certainly spell the end of Denis Suarez’s career with the club.

With the arrival of both Arturo Vidal and Arthur also to take into consideration, Suarez is now facing an incredibly challenging uphill battle to break into the first-team. Adding Pogba into the squad will further reinforce his need to embark on a new challenge to acquire first-team opportunities, and if Benitez plays his cards right the 24-year-old could be tempted by an unlikely switch.

Suarez impressed during his youth career at Manchester City before completing a move to Catalonia, and his former club’s decision to offload him could provide him with the motivation to return to the Premier League and show City what they are missing. With only Ayoze Perez to chose from in a creative number ten role, Benitez would solve a potential problem for the club by signing Suarez – a deal which would simultaneously force Perez to step up due to the added competition for a starting berth.

In the final-third Suarez provides a level of composure and guile in possession which is almost unrivalled in the current Newcastle squad, so there’s no doubt that the players around him would benefit from his presence.

Ashley’s prudence will presumably make a permanent deal something of an impossibility on deadline day but, with Pogba reportedly on the verge of joining Barcelona, there’s no doubt that Suarez will be open to the possibility of a season-long loan deal which would naturally suit the Newcastle owner given his history.
