Pay up: 60% of polled Arsenal fans think player demands must be met by the board

Arsenal fans aren’t enjoying the season so far, owing to the Gunners’ poor start to the Premier League season. Granted, it was always going to be difficult for Unai Emery, not least because of the opposition he’s had to face, but nonetheless, Arsenal’s lack of fight has been frustrating to watch.

The last thing Arsenal fans will have wanted, then, was more bad news – but that’s exactly what they’ve got. According to the Evening Standard, Aaron Ramsey wants an increase to his salary, and at present is not willing to agree fresh terms at the current offer that is being posed by the club.

Clearly viewing Mesut Ozil’s £350,000-per-week salary as a key factor behind his own expectations, Ramsey isn’t happy that he isn’t being held in similar esteem. That’s something, it seems, that a majority of Arsenal fans appear to be echoing.

We recently asked Arsenal fans whether the Welshman deserves pay parity with Mesut Ozil, and in response, 60% voted in favour of the 27-year-old. Meanwhile, just 40% of polled fans believe that he deserves to earn less than the German.

Certainly, based on current form, Ramsey more than holds up to Ozil. He bagged as many assists and three more goals than the German last season, and his overall consistency was far more useful to Arsene Wenger.

That said, he has only started 1 of Arsenal’s two games this season, and so Emery doesn’t yet appear convinced. Still, many Arsenal fans are hoping that he’ll be supported by a big salary bump.
