West Ham United’s European hopes are starting to slip away as the teams above them continue to ensure consistency, which is something that Manuel Pellegrini’s side haven’t managed to do.
The Hammers have failed to live up to expectations after spending big in the summer transfer window, and their last performance against Everton highlighted the need to bring in even more reinforcements this summer.
Interestingly, the London club will travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in their next Premier League fixture later on today. The Blues managed to turn things around at the Cardiff City Stadium last time out and they’re in hot pursuit of a top four spot, so the Hammers will be up against it once again.
Indeed, Pellegrini surely needs to make a number of changes after witnessing such a disappointing performance last time out against the Toffees. One of them should be to drop this man…
BENCH PEDRO OBIANG
Pedro Obiang, who is valued at £7.2 million (by Transfermarkt), has had to settle for a place on the substitutes’ bench most of the time, and his last performance showed why. Indeed, Pellegrini gifted the Spaniard a rare start in the side against Everton but he failed to repay the South American’s trust in what was an awful performance.
Everton’s midfield waltzed past him time and time again, he lost the ball a number of times when in possession and was substituted at half-time as a result of his woeful performance.
Therefore, the Hammers simply can’t afford to even bring him onto the field against a team like Chelsea as their dominant midfield would make a fool of him.
