Pellegrini should make £19.8m-rated ex-Premier League badboy his first West Ham signing

West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited with the latest developments coming from the London Stadium with a new manager set to be appointed.

The Hammers endured a dreadful season but were saved from relegation by David Moyes who replaced Slaven Bilic in November. Despite leading them to safety, the Scot was not given an extension to his contract and left the club. Now, former Manchester City boss, Manuel Pellegrini, is the favourite to take the reins. In fact, it seems all but done, to the delight of the Irons propping up our bar.

Pellegrini has a huge summer window ahead of him if he’s given the job following the failures of last season. A massive issue for the Chilean is goals. Javier Hernandez netted just nine goals following his summer move from Bayer Leverkusen; only Marko Arnautovic broke double figures in the entire squad.

A new striker needs to be high on his priority list, and Nice striker Mario Balotelli could be the answer to his problems. The pair did not get the chance to work with each other at City with Balotelli departing five months before Pellegrini’s arrival, and the 64-year-old has praised the forward in the past.

Valued at £19.8m by Transfermarkt, the former Liverpool forward has netted 26 goals in 38 appearances for the French club this season, one of the best returns in his career. A bonus for the Hammers is that he is out of contract in the summer and would be available for nothing.

His time in England wasn’t great, but at just 27-years-old, there is plenty of time for ‘Super Mario’ to leave his mark on the Premier League.
