West Ham United might strike gold if they up their interest in Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke.

Solanke has reportedly surfaced on the radar of a few Premier League clubs who are planning to strengthen their attacks in January with Huddersfield Town, West Ham and Crystal Palace all showcasing interest in the 21-year-old.

Sky Sports revealed that the Terriers are particularly keen on making a move for Solanke due to manager David Wagner's tight relationship with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

But Manuel Pellegrini should have taken serious note of this possibility to try and outgun Huddersfield for the services of Solanke.

Following a brilliant breakthrough at the Reds last season where Solanke made 21 Premier League appearances, competition for a place in the current Liverpool team has made it difficult for the centre-forward to get the nod by Klopp.

Instead, he has only featured in the Premier League 2 for the Merseyside club, while earning a place on the bench in Liverpool's League Cup loss to Chelsea in September.

A loan move could be just what the former Chelsea player needs and joining West Ham would be the ideal destination for him. The Hammers have been longing for a second striker that could pressurise opposition teams, while the load on Marko Arnautovic's shoulders appears to be taking its toll after he suffered a minor hip problem against Manchester City last weekend.

Despite Andy Carroll making a welcome return from injury, Pellegrini would have a major issue on his hands if Arnautovic should sustain a long-term injury blow.

Adding Solanke to his squad in January would give the manager an option to experiment for the future, as well have a contingency in case the club are without the services of Arnaoutovic.

In terms of Solanke's current season, a move to a big club like West Ham would also provide him with a competitive platform to compete on in a squad that brought in quite a lot recruits in the summer.

A bit of competition might be just what Pellegrini needs to get the best of out his team.
