West Hams fans in the Transfer Tavern can be optimistic for the future after former Manchester City boss, Manuel Pellegrini, was announced as their new manager.
Pellegrini was a Premier League winner with the Citizens and brings a wealth of experience with him to the London Stadium. The Chilean has a massive task on his hands as he looks to lift the Hammers up the table away from the relegation zone. Starting in the summer transfer window, new signings are a must.
To implement his attacking style of play, the 64-year-old needs to add reinforcements to his forward line. Only Marko Arnautovic hit double figures for the Hammers last season with Javier Hernandez struggling to consistently find the back of the net since returning to England. Adding another quality winger could boost his goal return next season.
The man for the job could be Stoke winger – Xherdan Shaqiri. The Swiss international looks destined to leave the club following their relegation and has stated his desire to stay in the Premier League. Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, he would be available for as little as £12m due to a relegation release clause.
The 26-year-old netted eight goals and notched seven assists in all competitions last season, but his performances were too inconsistent. He is supremely talented but struggles to perform week in, week out. If he can put his injury troubles behind him, he could prove to be an astute piece of business by Pellegrini.
