Southampton have endured a nightmare season in the Premier League so far, and Mauricio Pellegrino’s side are very much in danger of suffering the ignominy of relegation.
Just a point above the drop after throwing away a two-goal lead at Watford on Saturday, fans here in The Transfer Tavern are very concerned for their side’s future, and are keen to see movement from their Argentinian boss in the transfer window. However with fans exclaiming to our landlord that they need new faces over a pint, it appears outgoings could also be possible, with The Daily Mail reporting via their transfer ticker at 13:24 that Bologna are monitoring the situation of Manolo Gabbiadini.
The Italian impressed early into his Saints career after signing in January last year, but has scored just three league goals this season. Should a serious offer materialise for the player this month, then Pellegrino may consider allowing the Italian to return home.
Landlord’s Verdict: Gabbiadini promised so much following his arrival from Napoli, but the Italian international has failed to build upon his excellent start to life on the south coast.
Contributing just three goals this season, the club could be keen to get the player off of the wage bill, and with the £75 million fee received for Virgil van Dijk still burning in their pockets, it is likely the Saints will target a new forward or two this month. Gabbiadini’s time in England appears to be over, and a switch back to Serie A appears to be the best move for all parties.
