The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are jumping for joy near the pool table as news has spread that Pep Guardiola is going to bring in up to five new players to City in the summer.
The Daily Mail claims that talks with a number of City targets have already began and that signing some new defenders are a priority.
With Man City’s defence being a major problem this season it seems that some new faces may appear sooner rather than later.
It is reported that John Stones and Aymeric Laporte are seen as priority targets for Manchester City’s new look defence.
Both players are known to be admired by Pep Guardiola as both suit the former Barcelona manager’s style of play.
Also with Kompany yet again struggling with injuries, and doubts over the futures of Demichelis, Mangala and Otamendi, we may see at least one of these players in City’s back four in the future.
Another reported target is West Ham’s wonderkid Reece Oxford.
The Daily Mail claims that the club has made an initial enquiry, but they are yet to follow up with an offer.
Given the fact that Oxford has recently turned down a new contract it seems that Man City are keeping an eye on the teenager’s availability.
However the likelihood of these players joining Man City depends on if the club can sell some players in order to fund these transfers.
With other names such as Gundogan being linked it is fair to say that it going to be a busy window for Manchester City!
