Pep Guardiola simply must land £27m-rated outcast if Chelsea hijack Jorginho deal

The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are becoming increasingly disillusioned with the Jorginho transfer saga which has dragged on for the entirety of the transfer window so far, and recent reports suggest that another twist has emerged.

The Breakdown

Following weeks of speculation there was a growing feeling that Jorginho was finally set to put pen to paper on a deal with the Premier League champions, but recent reports suggest that there could be a sting in the tale yet.

According to a recent report from the Manchester Evening News, Chelsea are set to hijack City’s bid for Jorginho once they have appointed Maurizio Sarri as the new manager later this week.

With no confirmation from Chelsea regarding Sarri’s appointment, the Man City fans have every right to believe that the Jorginho deal will still go ahead, however, until the deal has been officially confirmed there is every chance that negotiations could collapse.

The Alexis Sanchez transfer saga which eventually saw the Chilean swap Arsenal for Manchester United served to prove that notion, so Guardiola should certainly have a plan b ready to implement in the event that Jorginho opts for a move to Stamford Bridge.

With that being said, City should have Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic (valued at £27 million by Transfermarkt) firmly on their radar as he prepares to face England in the semi-final of the World Cup tomorrow evening.

Despite possessing a wonderfully balanced set of footballing qualities, Kovacic has struggled to cement his place in the first-team at Madrid and he has failed to work his way into Croatia’s starting eleven as a consequence amid competition for places from the likes of Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic.

However, his lack of first-team opportunities at both club and international level represent something of an injustice in relation to his ability and, with a vacancy for an all-action central midfield player open at Man City, Kovacic is well-placed to slot into the squad this summer.

Rumours and reports regarding a deal for Jorginho will naturally drag on in the coming days, especially if Sarri replaces Conte at Chelsea, and if the jarring problems continue to persist for Guardiola he may be wise to turn his attention towards a player in Kovacic who has the potential to become a superstar with the club.
