Barcelona have been linked with a move for Chelsea defender David Luiz, so says the Daily Mail. Although Luiz only joined the Stamford Bridge club at the beginning of 2011, he is now a £20million target for the Spanish giants.
The Brazilian attracted the attention of Barca scouts whilst he was playing for Benfica and despite his £25million move to Chelsea, they are still interested in bringing him to the Nou Camp.
Luiz has bemused many fans with his unorthodox playing style and was famously branded by Gary Neville as playing like ‘a Playstation player controlled by a ten-year-old’. It is clear however that he possesses talent which may not be fully utilised in the centre of defence.
Luiz said that he was aware of Barca’s interest in him but stated that he was committed to his Chelsea contract:
“I would be lying if I said I know nothing. I am aware, not least because for months there have been constant rumours about Barca’s interest.
What I can confirm is that I have not negotiated anything and no-one has submitted a concrete offer. I am 100 per cent a Chelsea player.
Barca are a great team that play fantastic football. Every player would love to play for Barcelona.”
Chelsea are said to want a minimum of £35million for the Sideshow Bob lookalike.
