For the Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern, the summer transfer window is going to be their most important in recent memory. The Lilywhites have fallen down the ladder ever so slightly this season, and it’s important that they bounce back.
Fortunately, they’ve managed to retain a spot in the top-four, and with a new stadium on the horizon, they shouldn’t have too many issues bringing in the biggest names in Europe – provided they have the funds.
One player that they’re reportedly targeting this summer, according to the Telegraph, is Anthony Martial, and our landlord thinks that the Frenchman would be a perfect option for the Lilywhites.
After all, Martial has proven at points during his Man Utd tenure that he’s up there with Europe’s best. Possessing incredible pace, technique and dribbling, he’s a real asset when driving towards goal, and that was reflected by an excellent run in the Man Utd team over the festive period last year.
He’s found life tough in 2018, but that’s more down to Jose Mourinho and the arrival of Alexis Sanchez than it is down to his own personal failings.
At 22-years-old, he’s at an age in which he can still be moulded in a certain way, and Pochettino would be the perfect manager to do that. The Argentine has had a huge impact on many big names in recent years, and Martial could be next in line. He’s got a fantastic platform from which to build following his time in Manchester, but now a step to Spurs could be what he needs.
As the Telegraph report, he’d be able to fit into a variety of positions, including on the flanks and as a number nine. Undoubtedly, though, he’d be best suited to a role in line with the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-min and Erik Lamela. Particularly, he’d be perfect alongside Dele and Eriksen, as they are both players that are brilliant at passing and moving the ball forward. In Martial, they would have a willing runner that is able to be a fantastic bridge between the midfield and the attack, and he’s a player that is only going to get better with age.
Man Utd won’t be an easy team to negotiate with, but if Spurs can land Martial, it could go down as one of the deals of the last few years for the club.
