Southampton fans here in the Tavern will feel relieved that their side managed to secure another season in the Premier League, as they ensured their safety by the skin of their teeth.
Mark Hughes worked wonders at St Mary’s towards the end of the campaign as he managed to keep them up, with many of our local residents feeling confident that he can take them forward next season.
However, an awful lot of changes will need to be made as they could lose a number of their star players after a shocking campaign. But, the Saints should kick-start their summer by dipping into the transfer market for a striker, as the likes of Guido Carrillo and Shane Long looked less than convincing.
So, with Manolo Gabbiadini possibly tasked with leading the line by himself once again next season, Southampton must bring in another striker that can compliment the Italian’s game.
Therefore, Southampton should sign this player to bring the best out of Manolo Gabbiadini…
The Dutch international can score goals and that is something that Southampton struggled to do this season. Indeed, if the Saints want long-term success then they’ll need to bring the 26-year-old to the club this season, as his pace and power could easily tear apart a number of Premier League defences.
Though primarily a wide forward, he drifts into central areas on a regular basis, similar to how former Saint Sadio Mane does.
Manolo Gabbiadini struggled for support this season as there was no player beyond the oppositions’ defence to chase down any through balls. But, Quincy Promes would be able to compliment the Italian’s style of play, as he is always looking to get in behind the defence with his pace and keen eye for goal.
