The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Mauricio Pochettino will be backed with big funds this summer. The Lilywhites have had to compete with a substantially lower budget than some of their rivals, and if they want to win the Premier League, that must change.
One player that has been attracting interest from some of their rivals is Ivorian midfielder Jean Michael Serei. The midfielder, who currently plays for Nice, is a target of both Chelsea and Arsenal according to the Mirror.
Seri, who is rated at £31.5 million by Transfer Markt, is a player that has looked very good in recent years, and it is a surprise to see that Spurs aren’t in the running. Indeed, the 26-year-old could be perfect for Spurs, and in particular, he could provide Eric Dier with a fantastic new partner.
After all, at 30-years-old, Mousa Dembele is no longer the youngster that he once was, and so bringing in a new option makes sense. Seri, like Dembele, offers brilliant offensive play – with a fantastic range of passes and shots, alongside decent running and general midfield control, core components of his playstyle. With Dier able to hand many of the defensive responsibilities, Seri could be the perfect counter to that.
His form this season has been very good indeed. He’s bagged 2 goals and 7 assists, and at 26-years-old, he’s a player that is only now getting into the best form of his career.
For Tottenham, then, bringing him in could make sense. Beating Arsenal and Chelsea to his signature won’t be easy, but the prospect of them losing out a key target would be an added bonus for the club.
