Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern will be looking forward to the summer transfer window, as it will allow them to bolster their squad before the start of next season.
The Magpies managed to ensure their safety this season as they can now prepare for the challenges of the next campaign. Although, there is a number of changes that will need to be made after failing to meet expectations, so the transfer window will be the perfect opportunity for Rafa Benitez to improve.
Indeed, Jonjo Shelvey was one of Newcastle United’s standout performers this season, but he just wasn’t able to reach his potential in some matches as the players surrounding him failed to compliment his work.
However, it’s important that Benitez looks to find a suitable partner for the Englishman, as the 26-year-old could take them to the next level if he is provided with a sufficient amount of support.
With that in mind, Newcastle should sign this player to be the perfect partner for Jonjo Shelvey…
Sadly, Shelvey had the likes of Mikel Merino, Mohamed Diame and Isaac Hayden as his midfield partner this season, which didn’t exactly work out for him as all three players struggled at times.
But, partnering the Englishman with Jack Cork could make for a match made in heaven. The Burnley central midfielder loves to sit back and defend the back four, which would then give Shelvey the license to go on and push forward to try and contribute in the final third.
Cork is a very tidy player and he would slot right into the Magpies’ midfield with ease, as he is adept to playing the style of football that Benitez likes to play, having played under the impressive Sean Dyche at Turf Moor. And, at 28, the midfielder still has plenty to offer in the Premier League, so a move for him would be rather beneficial for Newcastle United.Like what the TT have on offer?
