Perfect Milivojevic partner: £18m-rated midfielder would complete Crystal Palace’s midfield

The Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping to see a handful of new players arrive at the club this summer, and recent reports have given them reason to believe that they are plotting a huge coup in the transfer market.

According to a recent report from The Daily Mirror, Palace are interested in signing Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere this summer on a free transfer when his deal expires at the end of June, although they face competition from a whole host of clubs for his signature. The report cites Hodgson’s previous history working alongside Wilshere during his time as England manager as a key reason for Palace’s interest.

The Eagles manager has performed an admirable job since taking over at Selhurst Park during the early stages of the 2017/18 season, but signing Wilshere would arguably represent his biggest achievement to date and a genuine indicator as to the direction in which the club are looking to move in.

Sure, Wilshere is no world beater and has plenty to prove at the top level after years of underachievement, but he was showing notable signs of improvement last season and he would undoubtedly inject a significant layer of quality into Palace’s midfield.

Luke Milivojevic was an ever-present general at the heart of the midfield last season and the Serbia international managed to add 10 goals in his club’s bid for survival.

Both James McArthur and Yohan Cabaye partnered Milivojevic to great effect throughout the course of the season, but there is a suggestion that a new midfielder of higher quality should partner him next season, and that’s where Wilshere comes in.

With creativity, Champions League experience and reassuring composure to bring to the table, there’s no doubt that Palace would secure a bargain transfer by signing Wilshere this summer, so Hodgson must do everything in his power to secure his signature.

With Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha playing on either flank and Milivojevic and Wilshere playing alongside each other in midfield, Palace supporters could be feasting their eyes upon a perfectly balanced midfield next season who possess the collective ability to ensure their club achieve a top-ten finish.
