The Wolverhampton Wanderers fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping Ruben Neves will play another starring role for their club next season upon their return to the Premier League, and recent reports suggests Wolves’ talisman could be handed a new midfield partner.
Ruben Neves played at starring role in Wolves’ promotion campaign last season at the heart of midfield, and if he is able to replicate his form in the top-flight there’s no doubt the club will be in with a chance of achieving survival. Nuno Espirito Santo will naturally be hoping to strengthen his options in central midfield to reduce the burden of responsibility which currently rests on Neves’ shoulders, and reports from the Daily Mirror suggests he is lining up a move for Jack Wilshere (valued at £18 million by Transfermarkt).
With a contract extension looking increasingly unlikely, Arsenal’s 26-year-old midfielder looks set to depart the Emirates this summer to embark on a new challenge, and Wolves are one of a handful of clubs who are interested in securing his signature.
Although Wolves will face a tough battle to sign Wilshere, it’s one that could transform the club if they are successful in their pursuit. With Neves likely to sit in a deeper-lying role, Wilshere would be well-placed to play in a slightly more attacking position where he should have free license to influence the game in the final-third.
Wilshere only managed to score 2 goals and provide 7 assists in all-competitions last season, but it must be considered that he was making something of a comeback with the Gunners. There’s no doubt he’s capable of achieving a greater return within the right environment, so Wolves should have no qualms about signing him, especially considering he is available on a free transfer.
In today’s economic climate, players of Wilshere’s quality rarely become available for transfer at anything other than an extortionate price, so the fact he is available for free suggests Wolves could make their signing of the summer by bringing him to Molineux.
With intricate passing, vision, agility, and determination at the core of his game, Wilshere would inject a level of quality into Wolves’ midfield which could transform their fortunes next season, so Santo must do everything in his power to convince the England international to sign for the Wanderers this summer.
