The Wolverhampton Wanderers fans are looking forward to their return to the Premier League next season and they are hoping to see a handful of quality players arrive at the club in preparation for the new campaign.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side look well-placed to hold their own in the top-flight next season after storming to a 1st place finish in the Championship last season, but the acquisition of a handful of key players will certainly aid their cause. Ruben Neves stole the show for the Wanderers with his consistently impressive displays at the heart of their midfield which even provoked a handful of onlookers to draw comparisons between the Portugal international and the great Andrea Pirlo.
It goes without saying that Neves is along way from emulating the achievements of Pirlo, but it’s fair to say his performances will heavily influence Wolves’ success next season. However, Santo cannot rely on the club’s player of the season to single-handedly carry the midfield next season, so he must invest in a quality talent this summer who has the potential to compliment Neves in midfield.
With that being said, Wolves should consider making a bid for Southampton’s 24-year-old holding midfielder, namely Mario Lemina. The Gabon international won the Serie A title twice with Juventus before making the switch to the Premier League last summer, and he became an instant hit following his arrival on the south coast.
Lemina’s displays in central-midfield represented a rare bright spark in an otherwise sobering campaign for the Saints as he consistently provided a solid shield for the back-four whilst injecting flair and creativity into their play moving forward. Considering it was only his first season in English football, Lemina appears to be a genuine talent for the future, and alongside Neves Wolves would have the making of a formidable midfield partnership on their hands.
Naturally, Southampton will be reluctant to sell Lemina as his presence will be pivotal to their long-term aspirations, but with the club stuck in limbo and Wolves aiming to qualify for the Europa League in the long-term future, he could be persuaded to swap St Mary’s for Molineux this summer.
