The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that their side will improve next season. Some major changes are expected this summer, but one thing that the Gunners must do is build around their most talented individuals.
Without a doubt, January signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is up there with the best players that the Gunners currently have to choose from.
He’s had a very strong start to his Arsenal career, but he has been let down somewhat by his teammates. There is a lack of balance in the team, and much of that comes from the midfield. With a lack of defensively-minded midfielders, Arsenal’s offensive players are required to defend far more than they should be, and that means that they often struggle going forward.
This summer, then, bringing in a defensive midfielder makes sense, and one player that could be perfect is Monaco’s Fabinho.
Fabinho is a defensively-minded midfielder that has been vital for the French side in recent years. A fantastic tackler and runner, he’s much like N’Golo Kante or Wilfred N’Didi in that he’s brilliant at shielding the players behind him.
Furthermore, he’s also very versatile. He has played across the defence and the midfield over the years, and given how many competitions the Gunners will be playing in next season, that’s crucial.
If Arsenal were to land him, he’d add some balance to the midfield, and that would have a huge impact on Aubameyang. It would, naturally, allow his teammates to push further forward, and then the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alex Iwobi to do what they do best – attack.
Thus, Aubameyang would get far more service, and it would make the Gunners a more complete team all-around.
