Peter Kenyon struggling to raise funds for takeover

Mike Ashley is looking to sell Newcastle United and there has been some alleged interest from Peter Kenyon about a possible takeover.

However, that looks unlikely at the moment as the team continue to struggle with their results in the Premier League.

The Magpies are yet to record a win in the top-flight this season, having picked up just two points in their first seven matches.

Kenyon is thought to have been working on putting together an offer for the club to try and turn the fortunes of the Toon Army around, however, things are starting to look bleak.

According to a report by The National, the former Chelsea and Manchester United chief executive has been unable to raise the funds to instigate an offer for the team.

This is not the first time that Newcastle have been the subject of a potential takeover, with Amanda Staveley having held long negotiations about a possible deal almost a year ago, but they ended rather abruptly.

The Verdict:

Newcastle currently find themselves in a mess on and off the field at the moment, something that they need to sort out immediately.

Rafa Benitez is desperate for investment into his side so he can bring in the right players and get the team performing.

Everyone associated with the club will want new owners to come in and take over as soon as possible, however, that looks unlikely at this stage.
