‘Phenomenal’ – Liverpool fans are full of praise for unlikely Champions League hero

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern haven’t left the pub yet, with the Anfield faithful still celebrating their side’s heroic win over Man City in the Champions League.

Despite their domestic victory over the Premier League leaders earlier this season, not many gave them much of a chance of succeeding in Europe. Man City have been simply sensational this season, whilst Liverpool’s occasional inconsistency made it difficult to see a way for Jurgen Klopp to pull out a sensational win.

However, his team did exactly that in the first leg, with a stunning 3-0 victory putting them in the driving seat for the second-leg.

The second leg took place last night, and whilst there was, naturally, a lot of anxiety amongst Liverpool fans, the Reds were able to do the business – beating Man City 2-1 on their own patch to secure their spot in the last four.

It was a brilliant performance over the two legs from every single Liverpool player, but the individual named the Man of the Match for the second leg certainly came as a surprise to our landlord. Dejan Lovren was the man chosen by Liverpool, owing to his brilliant performance at the back for the Reds.

It wasn’t a surprise for those that watched the game, given how good he was, but a few months ago, nobody would have guessed that Lovren would have been at the centre of such a big win for Liverpool. His form has been mixed at best, and many expected him to lose his place as the season progressed.

On Tuesday, though, he couldn’t have done any better, and it’s fair to say that Liverpool’s unlikely hero is garnering a lot of praise over on Twitter.

Fans are loving his recent form resurgence, and they’re just hoping that he can keep it up over the coming weeks.

Take a look at what they’ve had to say below…
