Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern could hardly watch as Alberto Moreno floundered on the opening day of the season, with many hoping that signing a new left back was at the top of Jurgen Klopp’s agenda before the transfer window slams shut.
Liverpool have been linked with a host of left full back’s this summer, with Euro 2016 star Jonas Hector amongst the most frequently touted names.
The deal for Hector has looked close to completion on several occasions, but with the defender signing a new contract with Cologne last week; that deal looks dead in the water.
Other targets, like Leicester City starlet Ben Chillwell have met similar ends; with Alberto Moreno still the club’s only available first team left back.
It was expected that following Moreno’s dismal opening day performance that Jurgen Klopp would immediately seek a replacement; but now that doesn’t like it is the case – in fact, quite the opposite appears true.
If this report by The Express is to be believed, Klopp has reportedly cut short his chase for a new left back, citing his inability to afford key targets like Jonas Hector for his change of heart.
The £20 million touted for Hector certainly is a big chunk of change, but surely Klopp can’t be serious with his intent to persist with Moreno for the rest of the season?
What do you think Liverpool fans? Does Moreno need more time, or is it only a matter of time before another key mistake arises? Let us know below!
