Man Utd have had a slow summer so far, that much is clear. The Red Devils haven’t had the desired impact in the transfer market yet, but could that be about to change?
In terms of star power, they don’t come bigger or better than him, and he’s won everything there is to win in the game over the years. However, whether he’s the man that Man Utd need right now remains to be seen.
The 29-year-old hasn’t had the best year or so, having suffered a few injury problems, whilst his overall form has suffered a dip in recent times too. Perhaps, then, Man Utd should consider a few alternatives. Jose Mourinho is clearly looking to build for the future, given the fact that so many of his signings have been young players, and signing Boateng would go against that plan.
That’s particularly true when you consider the abundance of young defenders that the Red Devils could target instead, like these TWO players, for example…
Man Utd would struggle to find a younger choice than Malang Sarr, but they’d also struggle to find an option with more potential.
Despite being just 19-years-old, Sarr began to make his mark on Europe during the 16/17 season, and the Frenchman has picked up nearly 50 league appearances for Nice since.
He’s clearly very raw, but to have been that prominent at such a young age, the Frenchman clearly has bags of talent.
Sarr is a fantastic passer of the ball, offering tremendous technical ability especially when he’s facing away from his own goal, whilst he’s just as good when defending.
If Mourinho is looking for an immediate option, Sarr might not be what he needs, but in terms of raw ability, look no further.
Jonathan Tah has been making waves in Germany for a few years now, but he’s still just 22-years-old.
The 2015/16 campaign became a bit of a breakout campaign for the German, picking up nearly 30 league appearances – and impressing throughout. Since then, he’s gone from strength to strength, and it’s now fair to call him one of Europe’s finest young defenders.
The Geerman doesn’t have any clear weaknesses, though as you’d expect, he’s still a player that is developing.
He’s fantastic with the ball at his feet, offering brilliant passing in particular, but he’s just as solid defensively. A brilliant tackler and excellent positioning, the young German has serious potential.
At a whopping 6ft3, he’s also a real force in the air, both defensively and offensively, and so he’d be a real threat in a league as physical as the Premier League.
There aren’t many 22-year-olds that can say they’ve got over 100 appearances across Bundesliga’s top leagues, yet Tah can – and he’s ready to step up again.
