Plans could be put in place to facilitate move as 28-year-old Chelsea ace contemplates future

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are ready to see the back of Diego Costa this summer…

A recent high-profile saga between the Spaniard and Antonio Conte has left his future looking uncertain, and with Romelu Lukaku touted with joining the Blues, an offensive rebuild looks certain at Stamford Bridge this summer.

However, with an Atletico Madrid return clearly the dream move for Costa, a deal has remained in doubt. Indeed, the Spanish outfit are unable to register players until January following a transfer ban – leaving concerns in the pub that Costa could be forced to stay at Stamford Bridge.

However, according to Marca, that may not be the case. Marca note that Atletico Madrid are interested in a move, and the plan would be either to send Costa on loan, or even set up a personalised pre-season training regime for the Spaniard as he awaits the turn of the year. Indeed, either circumstance would work for Chelsea, with their main objective likely to simply earn as much money as possible from any potential sale.

It would certainly be a shame for Costa to leave the club this summer, but at this point, there could be little choice. The Spaniard has always been a volatile figure, but this saga appears to have been the straw that has broken the camel’s back.

That being said, the Chelsea fans in the pub are very excited about the prospect of Romelu Lukaku moving to Stamford Bridge.
