Player wants to leave club and join Everton, deal is reportedly close

The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to the season with high hopes…

The Toffees have spent big and spent well this summer, with a host of top players moving to Goodison Park already – and there is still a few weeks left to get a few more faces in.

Fortunately for Ronald Koeman, it doesn’t look like the spending is slowing down anytime soon, with the Daily Mail reporting that another new player is set to move to Goodison Park – and this one is a big one.

Simon Jones of the Daily Mail writes that Everton are ‘on the brink’ of securing a deal for Gylfi Sigurdsson, with an offer of over £40 million reportedly on the table. It is noted that the Icelandic midfielder has told Swansea City of his desire to leave the club, and it appears as though a deal is finally edging towards completion.

The player has been touted with a move to Goodison Park in the pub for quite a while, but now it appears as though Ronald Koeman is finally about to get his man.

Landlord’s Verdict

With Ross Barkley yet to reach his potential, a move for a top creative player like Gylfi Sigurdsson makes a lot of sense for Everton.

The Toffees have lots of firepower, and a fantastic defence, but they don’t really have any players that are efficient at transitioning the ball between those two pillars – but in Sigurdsson, they definitely will.
