‘Please stay!’, ‘Class act’ – Delighted Southampton fans react to player’s admission

The Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern were forced to endure an uncomfortable season last time round and they are feeling relieved that they ultimately managed to remain in the top-flight.

In all honesty, Southampton were fortunate to survive last season after a thoroughly uninspiring campaign, so they cannot afford to make the same mistakes again next season. The Saints’ season boiled down to what was effectively a relegation play-off fixture against Swansea City in their penultimate game of the season, and they had Manolo Gabbiadini to thank for securing all 3 points at the Liberty Stadium.

Following a season of frustration for the Italian striker, his winning goal was a moment to savour, and it appears that the supporters continue to hold him in high-regard despite his modest return of 5 goals from 28 Premier League appearances last season.

With Gabbidani, Shane Long, Charlie Austin and Guido Carrillo all on Southampton’s books, it’s likely that Hughes will cash in on one of his forwards this summer, but it won’t be their survival hero if recent reports are anything to go by.

According to Italian media outlet Sport Repubblica, Gabbiadini spoke of his personal desire to remain in the Premier League during an interview with Radio Onda Libera.

In response to reports, the Southampton fans reacted with delight and pleaded with the 25-year-old to remain with the club next season.

Considering how prolific Gabbiadini was during the early stages of his career in English football, it’s easy to sympathise with the opinion shared by the Southampton supporters who will be hoping to see him rediscover his best form in the near future.

Here’s what the Southampton fans on Twitter have had to say in response to Gabbiadini’s recent comments…
