Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern will be welcoming the news that Mauricio Pochettino has revealed about one of his players in a press conference.
The Spurs boss has stated that Toby Alderweireld will play for the club again during the season, although he warned him that he would have to wait for his opportunity.
The Belgium international is thought to be ready to quit White Hart Lane in the summer after refusing to sign a new deal with the club and has not featured in the Premier League since October, due to a hamstring injury.
The 29-year-old is thought to have a number of potential suitors in the summer should he try and force a move from north London, however, Pochettino has told him he is part of his plans for the remainder of this season.
“Toby is still our player on a two-year contract. I am sure he is going to play before the end of the season, I am sure. He is doing well, he is training. He has to wait for his opportunity,” he told Sky Sports.
“Today there is no point talking about this type of situation.”
It will be difficult for Alderweireld to get a place in the starting XI, as Spurs are currently on a 14-game unbeaten run and look set for Champions League football once again. Still, despite the problems of late, the punters propping up our bar would be delighted to see him stick around.
Spurs fans in the Tavern will be hopeful that Alderweireld can be at his best following a long lay off and will be hoping the club can convince him to remain and sign a new deal. One of the best defenders in the league, seeing him depart would be painful for our local Lillywhites.
