Pochettino facing disappointment with Tottenham unlikely to land 29-goal forward – report

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern would love a new forward to join the club in January. Beyond Harry Kane, Mauricio Pochettino’s options are very limited, with Fernando Llorente struggling to make much of an impact. Clearly, then, the January transfer window could prove to be an important time for the club, with a new forward likely to be on the Argentine’s shopping list.

However, one player that doesn’t look likely to end up in London is Luis Suarez. According to Don Balon, Mauricio Pochettino is a massive fan of the forward, who scored 29 league goals last season. However, a deal is not likely to come to fruition, with Suarez reportedly keen to stay in Spain and fight for his place. Thus, any advances from Spurs are likely to be turned down.

Suarez has been in sensational form since moving to La Liga from Liverpool, with 29 league goals last term already followed up with a further 9 goals this season.

Of course, a move can’t be solely ruled out, but Barcelona aren’t realistically going to want to sell, and with Suarez not keen to force a move, a successful approach from Tottenham is very unlikely.

That will come as a blow for Pochettino, who clearly has big plans for his side. Daniel Levy will have to look elsewhere if he is to back his manager with a few new faces.

Landlord’s Verdict

Suarez would have been a fantastic signing, but it was always going to be unlikely. Even if he wanted the move, Barcelona’s demands would have been extortionate, and Levy is rarely keen to spend big.

Still, Tottenham need to bring a few new faces in, and so they can’t give up – they must find other targets, with Llorente struggling.
