For the Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern, no manager is better at building young talent than Mauricio Pochettino…
Good players like Dele Alli and Harry Kane have been turned into great players by the manager, and there is a genuine belief amongst supporters that the Argentine can do no wrong.
This is what makes Tottenham’s reported pursuit of Ross Barkley particularly interesting, and according to the Evening Standard, the manager has big plans for the midfielder. It is said that Pochettino is keen on landing Barkley this summer, and he will attempt to convert him into a deep-lying midfielder in the ilk of Mousa Dembele – with a plan for him to replace the Belgian long-term reportedly in the offing.
Barkley is a player that has divided fans in the Transfer Tavern as of late, with many supporters concerned at his lack of progression, but if anyone can make him better it is Mauricio Pochettino.
Dembele’s boots will be difficult to fill, though, and so Barkley certainly has his work cut out.
Mousa Dembele is a top player, and whilst he rarely gets the plaudits, he is the talisman for the Tottenham side under Mauricio Pochettino. His departure, however distant that may be, is something that the club must prepare for imminently, and Pochettino is clearly in the process of that.
Barkley does fit the bill given his potential, but with so much still to learn, it will not be a short process.
Still, with a fantastic eye for a pass and a persistent goal threat, Barkley has the natural talent that so few other players do – and all he needs is a bit of support.
Koeman, clearly, hasn’t provided that, and whilst he may not reach the levels first expected of him – he is still young enough to have a real impact at White Hart Lane.
