Pochettino landing attacker who cost £3.45 million could end Son’s Tottenham career

The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern hold Heung-min Son in the highest regard, but recent reports have given them reason to believe that his days at the club are numbered.

According to recent reports from the Daily Mail, Mauricio Pochettino has requested around £100 million in order to achieve his objectives in the transfer market this summer, and the likes of Wilfried Zaha, Anthony Martial and Ryan Sessegnon are all on his radar. Zaha has been linked with a transfer away from Selhurst Park for a number of months, with almost every top club in England in the running for his signature if reports are to be believed.

On the one hand Pochettino’s interest in Zaha is hardly surprising considering the extent of his development at Palace during the past two seasons, however, the fact he would be in direct competition with Heung-min Son for starting berth is puzzling a handful of the Lilywhites faithful propping up our bar. Son was in inspired form for Tottenham once again last season as he notched an impressive 18 goals and provided 11 assists from 53 appearances in all-competitions whilst predominantly operating as a left-winger.

Like Son, Zaha also prefers to play on the left-side of an attacking midfield three where he can turn defenders inside out with his direct style of dribbling, and his talent in this regard has consistently served as a valuable weapon for Palace since he arrived from Manchester United for a measly fee of £3.45 million in 2015.

Although Zaha possesses the versatility to operate in a number of attacking roles, his arrival could jeopardise Son’s future at the club as the South Korea international could be inclined to embark on a new challenge if there is no guarantee of first-team football.

Competition for places is a sign of a healthy club, providing the manager is able to manage the egos of the players and ensure they remain satisfied with their level of opportunity of course.

That is the challenge Pochettino will be forced to face if he is successful in his pursuit of Zaha, otherwise he may be forced to sell a true fan-favourite to accommodate his new signing.
