Pochettino looking to make signings as Tottenham consider move for £19.8m-rated creator – report

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Mauricio Pochettino to bring in a few new faces this month. It’s been a tough season so far for the Lilywhites, with their dream of another Premier League title challenge now looking unlikely. They’ve fallen off the wagon behind the likes of Man City, Chelsea and Man Utd, and that is problematic for Pochettino.

Still, we’re only at the half-way point in the season, and so there is time for them to turn things around. For that to happen, though, a few new signings could be needed. Fortunately, that is what the club is planning, it seems.

According to the Express, Mauricio Pochettino is eager to make a move for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes this month, with the Portuguese midfielder struggling at the Nou Camp. Pochettino is apparently keen to improve his options this month, and seemingly sees Gomes as the perfect fit.

Gomes moved to Barcelona from Valencia after impressing during the 2016 European Championships, but has had a tough time at the club. Unable to break into the first team on a regular basis, a departure could give him a chance to rebuild his faltering career.

He’s rated at £19.8 million by Transfer Markt, and his lack of action in La Liga could give Tottenham the edge as they look to source a cut-price move.

Landlord’s Verdict

Gomes has made just 2 starts in La Liga this season, and so he’s clearly not a key player in the eyes of the Catalan giants.

At 24-years-old, he’s still a young player, and he has proved during his time – particularly with his country – that on his day he’s unstoppable. A fresh start could be just what he needs, and Mauricio Pochettino has often been able to get the best out of stumbling players.

This move could be best for everyone involved.
