The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern haven’t been very impressed with Moussa Sissoko since moving to White Hart Lane…
He signed last season with a lot of expectation on his shoulders, with Mauricio Pochettino’s signings often proving successful over the last few years. However, in many ways, the Frenchman has broken that mould – with a debut season to forget at White Hart Lane.
The midfielder failed to hold down a regular spot in the Tottenham first team, eventually falling out of favour under Pochettino, and given his poor showing – many in the Transfer Tavern are expecting him to leave this summer.
However, that won’t necessarily be the case, with Mauricio Pochettino confirming – via the Evening Standard– that he is planning for next season with the Frenchman involved.
He said, via translator: “He’s [Sissoko] training at the training ground. He’s a member of the squad…He’s in [the] plans for the season”.
Clearly, Pochettino is more than happy to keep him at the club, but the Evening Standard does go on to note that the club would not stand in his way should a move come in for Sissoko.
It’s a tough spot for Tottenham, with Sissoko’s first season unlikely to garner many suitors – particularly at the price that they signed him for – so they stand to lose big money this summer should they decide to move him on. That said, if he continues to perform like he did last season, his position within the squad surely must come under question.
Still, his performances at Newcastle proved that he’s talented, so perhaps the 2016/17 season was just a blip from the Frenchman. Our landlord isn’t so sure, though.
