The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a few signings in January. The Lilywhites have had a decent start to the season, and a few additions in January could be enough to power them back into the title picture in the Premier League. However, they weren’t banking on any departures, and that could be exactly what they’re about to get.
According to Ryan Bailey of the Gambling Times, Mauricio Pochettino is resigned to letting Danny Rose leave in January after another disagreement between the player and the Argentine boss, with the Spurs manager now ready to sanction a departure in the new year. A sale is far from a foregone conclusion, with Daniel Levy unlikely to agree to a cut-price deal, but it appears as though the manager is ready to wash his hands of the defender.
Rose’s future has, of course, been uncertain in recent months, and the fact that he hasn’t started every game since his return from injury has only exasperated that situation. With Ben Davies a more than adequate replacement, Rose’s future is looking very bleak.
That said, it would still be a big blow were he to leave, as there is no doubting his quality. Unless Tottenham can get big money for him, a sale will leave more than a few of our resident Lilywhites feeling disappointed.
These issues aren’t going away, and so something must be bubbling under the surface.
If Tottenham can sell him for big money and bring in a replacement for significantly less – as they did with Kyle Walker and Serge Aurier – this is a deal that makes sense.
However, they cannot sell him without bringing in a replacement, particularly in January, as they look to embark on a strong second-half of the season.
