Pochettino: This is why I like having this Tottenham star in my team so much

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern think that Eric Dier is one of the best signings in recent memory…

The Englishman came to White Hart Lane with little fanfare, but fast forward a few years and he has proven himself as one of the best talents in the country.

He has been a regular for Tottenham¬†since he joined, and with good reason. He’s incredibly strong defensively, whilst he is also often potent in front of goal – but Mauricio Pochettino has revealed another reason why he is so invaluable to this team.

According to the Daily Mail, he said: “I think the most important thing last season was that he was the player in the squad that played the most”.

Continuing, he said: “He can dominate different positions on the pitch and that is so fantastic – he can be top as a midfielder, centre-back or full-back. Then it is up to the manager to use him in different positions”.

This versatility is what makes Dier’s role so important. He might not play in the same place every week, but unlike many of this teammates, he often does play every week – so his position is slightly less important.

He’ll need to refine his role and find his position if he wants to turn into one of Europe’s best, but the job he is doing at the moment is such an important one, and Mauricio Pochettino clearly recognises how essential he is.

Landlord’s Verdict

Dier’s preferred position is likely in the heart of the midfield, but with Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama, it’s tough for the Englishman to get into that role.

Instead, he has impressed in defence, and then when called upon he has looked good in his more natural midfield position too.

If he keeps this up, he’ll go down in Spurs history.
